The military has long shaped cities through defense, logistics, and large-scale development. Downsview, once home to the de Havilland aircraft plant and a major airbase, reflects this legacy. As climate change and disasters intensify, the military’s role is evolving toward disaster relief and resilience. This project reimagines Downsview as a civic-military hub, combining sustainable military housing, emergency response infrastructure, and climate research.

Phase 1 – The Depot: Mixed-use zones with housing, labs, and public innovation spaces.
Phase 2 – Taxiway & Hangar: Repurposed airfield for drone-assisted response and aerospace production.
Phase 3 – The Runway: Historic airstrip becomes a civic spine for ecological innovation and public engagement.

Downsview becomes a model of urban sustainability and military resilience.
